Had the opportunity to shoot one of The Fight Club’s new ring girls Rebecca over at Legends Training Centre earlier in the week. Rebecca was an absolute pleasure to work with, she was very comfortable and natural and hit the right poses without much prompting. Looking forward to future shoots with Rebecca for sure!

Nate Diaz Seminar at Hayabusa Training Centre

Edmonton had a great opportunity to learn from a current UFC fighter. The UFC’s Nate Diaz was in town for Aggression MMA IV: Victory on Friday night. Luke Harris from Hayabusa Training Centre in St. Albert arranged for Diaz to come out and hold a seminar for Edmonton area fighters and fight fans.

Since entering the world of sports photography, and more importantly the combat sports scene in Edmonton, Alberta; pixelens photography has learned very quickly that that there is a much larger community at play than just the promotion or specific fight card itself. Edmonton definitely has one of the largest fight scenes in Canada and every day it seems like new fighters are entering the ring. Not only do these new – and current – fighters rely on the local gyms and other fighters to train with, they are constantly seeking out new sponsorship in order to assist them in their quest to be able to train harder, stronger, faster and more often.

pixelens photography believes in quality and dedication in our work and have recognized this same quality and dedication in “The Afrikan Assassin”, Mukai Maromo. Mukai was born and raised in Zimbabwe, Africa. He moved to North Carolina at the age of 19 when he was granted a track scholarship for university. He later moved to Toronto to pursue academics. Mukai took up Muay Thai as a way to stay in shape. Because of his incredible athleticism he excelled at the sport and became a three time champion.

With his established past and Muay Thai record (16-3), Maromo believes he can bring his skills to the cage and with additional MMA training dominate in this rapidly growing sport.

pixelens was approached by Maromo’s manager Dean Panas prior to his MMA debut at KOTC Combustion. Panas felt that it was important for Maromo to make a postive impact on the MMA scene, not only in the ring, but with the fans as well. Together, pixelens and Panas put together a couple prints that Maromo could sign and give to those who supported him. The day following the fight, pixelens was contracted to create a thank-you poster for Union Hall – Maromo’s main sponsor for his pro-MMA debut.

Out of all the MMA photographers in Edmonton, pixelens photography is proud and honored to work with Maromo and joins Diesel Ultra Lounge and Crystal Glass in sponsoring this exciting up-and-coming MMA fighter.

“The Afrikan Assassin” currently holds a 2-0 MMA record after defeating David Fuentes at Aggression MMA IV: Victory on July 9, 2010. Look for Maromo in the cage again soon as he takes on Carlos Espinoza (2-3) at King of the Cage on July 30 at Rexall Place in Edmonton.
